Do I have room for laundry pedestals and towers?
|
Laundry pedestal drawers and towers are a great alternative to storing laundry accessories in high shelves or cabinets in your laundry area. Not only do they keep all of your necessary laundry additives in one place, but they provide ergonomically correct support to your body while you do laundry. Laundry pedestal drawers can raise your washer and dryer units up to 15.5” giving your back a much needed break.
When considering if a laundry tower or pedestal drawer will work for your laundry room you need to note how much space you need for both to fully open. Laundry towers offer the most in terms of location flexibility. Put them wherever you need them within the laundry area — next to the washer and dryer, in between the washer and dryer, or on the other side of the room.
Keep in mind that laundry pedestals will only work with front-loading washers and dryers. Most pedestal drawers come in either 10" or 15." Depending on the laundry pedestal height you choose you will need to consider the space you have above the laundry pair.

Front-loading washers - less water, less clean?
|
|
Front-loading or high-efficiency washers provide exceptional performance overall. Unlike their counterpart the top-load washer, they do not have agitators which move laundry back and forth within the unit loosening soils. Instead, front-loading washers clean clothes and other items by tumbling which ends up being gentler on fabrics. You’ll notice that the laundry load will sit in a small amount of water versus being submerged completely in water as it would in a top-loading washer.
According to the SDA (Soap and Detergent Association) the laundry load tumbles back and forth through the water, as the tub rotates clockwise and then counterclockwise, moving water through each garment and removing soil. This repetitive motion does an efficient cleaning job on fabrics. Typically, you will be instructed to purchase special low-sudsing “HE” or high-efficiency detergent with a front-loading washer because you are using less water.

Boy, what a good cleaner you are! I'm so glad you brought this up because I just was wondering this myself and did a bit of research. It turns out that all that dirty water, soap residue, and those hard water deposits really take a toll on your washing machine. With that, here are three easy steps to clean your washing machine.
1. Run a cycle of hot water along with two cups of vinegar or lemon juice to get the grime out.
2. Remove your fabric softener receptacle and clean it well with hot water and detergent.
3. Clean the bleach dispenser with a spray cleaner and paper towels.
